Au Pair


Although it is not very common, working as an au pair in Ecuador is certainly an option. In Ecuador, mainly expat families hire au pairs from abroad, for example to help their kids developing their native language (like English or German), but some Ecuadorian families also have au pairs. In most cases, you will be offered food and board plus a small allowance.

What the au pair must know

Basic application criteria depend on the family and/or the au pair agency, but there are a few typical requirements:

In addition to these requirements, it is common for families to ask for non-smoking, possession of driver's license, responsible or non-drinkers, and for females. Some families/agencies may also require time spent tutoring.

Visa

Since a family is not a registered company, in most cases they will not be able to arrange a work visa for you. However, Ecuador has several options allowing you to stay in the country for up to a year or, if you hold a university title, two years.

If hired through an agency, the agency usually guides the au pair through the process.
