Dialing

To Call Internationally from Colombia

First, you need to ensure that your landline plan includes the possibility to make international calls. Some companies offer discounted rates for calls to specific countries, generally within Latin America, Spain and the U.S.

You need to dial 00, followed by the international exit code of your landline provider (1-3 digits), followed by the destination country code, the area code and the phone number.
For example, to call the United States from Colombia, you need to dial:
00+ X + 1 + Phone number including area code

To Call Colombia Internationally

The country code for Colombia is +57.
It should be followed by the Colombian phone number. 

To Call within Colombia 

To call a Colombian landline from a Colombian mobile phone, dial the regional code, followed by the 7-digit phone number. The landline code for Bogota is 031.
To call a mobile phone from a Colombian landline, dial 03, followed by the 7-digit mobile phone number.
To call a Colombian landline from a different region (llamada larga distancia), you need to dial the national exit code of your landline provider,  followed by the regional code of the phone number, and the 7-digit phone number. Installation

Installation is a straightforward process and does not require a lot of documentation, only a valid Colombian ID.

Check with your landlord if the apartment doesn't already have a landline, or a contract for TV or internet, as it might be easier to contact the provider and arrange a package deal.

There are no fees involved, and the installation date should be scheduled by phone. There is no minimum contract length, but it is advisable to let the company know some time in advance if you wish to cancel the agreement. If you move to a different property within the city, you may also have the option to keep the agreement and transfer the contract to the new site.

Public Phones

The public phone service is no longer available in Colombia, as most people have mobile phones.

Prepaid Cards

Prepaid cards are easy to use and affordable ways to make international phone calls. You can purchase them at online shops or in some supermarkets and use them with a landline or a mobile phone.

Skype, Google and other ways to connect

There are many websites that allow you to make phone calls online or leave voice and video messages, either free of charge or for a small fee. This is often more convenient that a traditional phone call, as you can call from the comfort of your own home, regardless of the differences in time zones.
