Installation

Installation is a straightforward process and does not require a lot of documentation, only a valid Colombian ID.

Check with your landlord if the apartment doesn't already have a landline, or a contract for TV or internet, as it might be easier to contact the provider and arrange a package deal.

There are no fees involved, and the installation date should be scheduled by phone. There is no minimum contract length, but it is advisable to let the company know some time in advance if you wish to cancel the agreement. If you move to a different property within the city, you may also have the option to keep the agreement and transfer the contract to the new site.

Prepaid Cards

Generally there are a series of steps that apply to all cards:

  • Dial the access number marked on the card
  • Enter your PIN code
  • Dial the number you want to call

At the end of the conversation, you should receive the message informing you of the credit balance.

Skype, Google and other ways to connect

There are many websites that allow you to make phone calls online or leave voice and video messages, either free of charge or for a small fee. This is often more convenient that a traditional phone call, as you can call from the comfort of your own home, regardless of the differences in time zones.
Skype is the best technology for this, but other similar services include Google Talk or Windows Live Messenger. You can find out more options on the EasyExpat Blog.
