Due to Andorra's geography and climatology, its inhabitants are big fans both of mountain competitions and indoor sports. This includes; roller hockey, volleyball, cycling, handball, gymnastics, swimming, motorsports, tennis, judo, etc.
Since 1976, Andorra has been a consistent participant in the Winter Olympic Games. They have also been part of the Games of the Small States of Europe and have hosted them both in 1991 and 2005.
Stadiums and sports facilities in Andorra
In Andorra there are different main stadiums and sports facilities (in catalan). Between the most important you can find:
- Andorra National Stadium: It homes 1 athletic track (6 streets and 400 meters of rope), a natural grass field (soccer 11), a covered pavilion for skate practice (hockey and artistic skating), 2 tracks outdoor sports and a bodybuilding room.
- Palau de Gel (Ice Pavilion): Equipped with an Olympic ice rink that measures 1,800 m² (60 x 30 m), a heated swimming pool and a full equipped gym. This Ice Pavilion is unique in its kind in Andorra
- Vall d'Ordino Golf Club
- Equestrian Club L'aldosa
- Els Serradells Sport Club: (webpage available in Catalan only) These are probably the biggest and most important sport facilities in Andorra. Squash and Tennis Outdoor & Indoor courts are available
Sporting Events
- Europa Cup Finals 2018: The World Cup is the most important international circuit-based alpine ski competition in the world, along with the Winter Olympics and the Alpine World Ski Championships. In 2018, Andorra held its finals - From 12 to 18 March 2018
- Total Fight (March to April): This year Grandvalira will host the 15th Total Fight Masters of Freestyle competition, the most important freestyle event in the Pyrenees, with the outstanding man and female riders from the world of freestyle.
- Speed Skiing World Cup: Grandvalira will host the fastest skiers competition in the world for the two final trials of the Speed Skiing World Cup.
- Maxiavalanche: Downhill Marathon with Mass Start, taking place on a 1000 / 1500m drop descent in some of the greatest Bike Park in Europe
- Mountain Races World Championship 2018: The 34th edition of the Mountain Races World Championships organized by the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations).
