Normal opening hours are 9am to 6pm on weekdays and 10am to 5pm on Saturdays. Sunday opening is restricted to a limited number of days per year, so the large department stores open on Sunday only about once each month. Shops in large shopping centres may stay open until 7pm on weekdays. The two main Copenhagen department stores, Illum and Magasin, have late opening on Thursday and Friday nights, until 8pm

Copenhagen has many two shopping centres / malls, one at Fisketorvet, close to Dybbelsbro train station and the Fields centre, close to Ørestad metro station. The main shopping area in the city is the pedestrianised main shopping street, Strøget, which has two large department stores, designer fashion shops and a range of smaller boutiques and chain stores. Denmark has many home-grown designers, many of whom have their flagship boutiques in the city centre.

Frederiksberg is also an area with a lot of shops and a department store close to Frederiksberg metro station.
