    International Schools in Berlin

Guides: Berlin > Education / International Schools
    6/06/2011

There is a wide choice of international schools and kindergartens, each with its own unique approach to education. Some schools offer an Internal Baccalaureate and General Certificate of Secondary Education. There are also schools that provide a non-English education (e.g. French, Japanese, German) that can help an expat student feel more at home. Space is often limited and preference may be given to students based on nationality. Admission and enrollment procedures vary from school to school. International schools are very expensive, but usually offer high standards of learning, boast smaller class sizes, first-rate facilities, and extracurriculars. Expect to pay around 13,000 euros a year.

Nelson Mandel School - Highly respected member of UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASP). Instruction in English and German with an international focus.

John F. Kennedy School - Gives preference to American students. Has more than 1,700 students from German, American, and other international students in Kindergarten through Grade 13.

Charles Dickens School - Established in 1971, this school of over 450 children has courses in English and German.

Franzoesisches Gymnasium - Lycée français de Berlin. Courses in German and French. It brings together high school and college (Unter-, Mittel- and Oberstufe) with about 800 students (the scholarship follows the French schedule). You can prepare the German Abitur and the International Baccalaureate.

      You have other French schools:
    • Collège Voltaire: more than 300 children between 3 and 15 with French teaching (Ganztagschulen)
    • Romain-Rolland-Oberschule: A public and free school, preparing the abi-bac, with 2 bilingual classes (Franco-German channel) from the age of 5.

Staatliche Europa Schulen - 25 European schools with teaching in French and English under the direction of the Staatliche Europaschule Berlin (SESB). The only condition of entry is that both languages are spoken as mother tongues (Senatsverwaltung für Bildung, Jugend und Sport).

British School - This school gives preference to British students, and offers high quality education. Among the most expensive options.

Berlin International School - Non-denominational day school offering student-centered learning to international and local students from pre-school through university entrance preparation.

Berlin Metropolitan School- Instruction is in English and all the teachers are native speakers.
