Cinema
Spanish cinema is well respected with such recent notable international successes as "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Volver". Filmmaker Luis Bunuel was the first to achieve world recognition, followed by Pedro Almodóvar in the 1980s.
There are many different cinemas that show films in the original language with Spanish or Catalan subtitles, but most films are dubbed (doblado). The marking VO (versione originale) denotes a film in original language. Some cinemas advertising VO films show the film in Spanish with the original version language soundtrack via headphones. Viewers can rent the headsets to listen to the soundtrack; they are available (with a refundable deposit) from the cinema front desk.

Nightclubs
Spaniards are known to party and the second biggest city does not disappoint. Nights out start late and go all night. Most places don't open until midnight. Different neighborhoods have different vibes so find the right area for you.
There are usually no set prices. Entrance fees depend on the day of the week, and events. It may be possible to enter for free before the prime entrance times (usually before 01:00). There are also many flyers distributed in shops, bars and cafes that offer free entrance or a free drink.
Areas
Las Ramblas - This highly populated area is always a good starting point. and - on either side of it - the narrow streets of the medieval Old Town. Barcelona's busiest boulevard by day, Las Ramblas is also heaving by night, especially in the early stages of the evening when the street performers are still playing their trade and the pavements throng with locals and tourists heading out for drinks and dinner. Restaurants at this time are spilling over with customers fuelling themselves on tapas and other treats, whilst the strip also has plenty of bars and clubs, like the Boadas cocktail bar, the Kiosk La Cazalla, Sports Bar Rambles and Boulevard Club to name a few.
General tips to gain entry:
- Don't try to enter as a large group on popular nights. Break up into smaller groups if there are 5+
- Know the style of the club you are going to and dress for it.
- Men may have more trouble getting in so try to balance your group with more women than men.
- Bring cash to pay for the cover.

Magic Club
Located in the El Born District, this is Barcelona's most famous indie club. Energetic dancefloors and 80s hits.
Gothic Quarter
Macarena Club
Tiny techno club near the Ramblas.
Marula Cafe
Intimate club that offers jazz, funk, soul, disco and Latin.
Sidecar Club
Young crowds congregate at this basement club.
Jamboree
Offers live music in a historical setting in the Plaza Real. It has a daily program of life concerts with traditional jazz and innovative sounds. After the concerts the club is transformed into a disco with Hip Hop, Funk and Blues.
Harlem Jazz Club
Legendary jazz club in the heart of the old town. There is jazz, funk and soul nearly every night of the week.
Moog Club
Just off the Ramblas, it is open every night of the week. There are two small dancefloors dedicated to techno.
Sarria-Sant Gervasi
Luz de Gas
An old musical hall, the place has been turned into a venue for jazz, soul, music of the 60, classic or blues.

Flamenco
Flamenco is a special tradition that you should observe in Barcelona. The cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), dance and palmas (handclaps) are the basics of flamenco. This art form has become popular all over the world and on November 16, 2010 UNESCO declared Flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
