Cinema

An excellent summer-evening experience is taking in one of Athens’ outdoor cinemas. Films are not dubbed and the Greek translation appears in subtitles. You can purchase your tickets 15-20 minutes ahead of the screening to avoid the long queues. Usually there are two programs, one at 9 p.m., the other at 11 p.m. Seats are not numbered. Many open-air cinemas also have a garden with tables where you can have a snack or a drink while enjoying the film.

The Village Center in Maroussi opened a few years ago and was the first multiplex cinema to open in Greece. If offers ten screens, comfortable seating, a state-of-the-art Dolby surround sound system and plenty of parking space.

Village Park Entertainment Center opened in 2000 and is one of Europe's largest entertainment complexes with 20 cinemas, 45 shops and several dining venues including a Planet Hollywood restaurant. All films, with the exception of Greek-language ones, are played in the original language with Greek subtitles. How to get there: Bus B18 from Menandrou Street near Omonia Square.

Nightclubs

Athens nightlife is big: cafeterias and bars all over the city become music bars with professional DJ's at night and they are too numerous to list here. The neighbourhoods to head for are: Syntagma, Kolonaki and Glyfada. Winter is the best time to enjoy the full range of after-dark entertainment since many establishments move to the coast during the summer months.
