    29/02/2008

The general emergency number in the Netherlands for police, fire brigade and ambulance is 112.

GSM mobile phones may accept a different number to dial into the emergency services (such as 999, 000 or 911), depending on their firmware.

Directory assistance is available at 1888 (speech recognition) or 1850 (human, more expensive).

Operators for the Pan-European emergency number (112) speak English and will contact the appropriate emergency service.

Calling 112 is free from any telephone (mobile cellular or fixed-line).
