Five local mobile phone operators have the Netherlands extremely well covered with GSM 900 and 1800 networks. KPN telecom is the national telecom provider. You can find out more at www.kpn.com

The key mobile telephone operators in the Netherlands are:

You only pay the local rate for local calls since the SIM card is prepaid, there is no hassle of a contract. You can get a pre-paid SIM card at any mobile shop in Amsterdam.

The SIM Card for Netherlands includes:

    • 10 EUR (US $13.00) starter airtime credit
    • FREE incoming calls

    • Data capable

Pre-paid phone cards also come in handy if you like to make calls back home. There are many 'Asian' and international cards that offer generous talk time. Cards can be bought for 5, 8 and 10 euros. Simply scratch off the card to reveal the code, call the number to get connected, key in your code and then the number of the country you're calling. Those cards are usually sold in bookshops and newsagents, in supermarkets and corner shops.
