    A work contract must be signed between the employee and the employer at the latest during the first days of work. A work terms and conditions agreement must be given, showing the working hours, the notice period, redundancy motivations, the duration of paid leave etc.

    It is not legally laid down how many hours constitute full-time employment. Then normal work week is 36 or 38 hours per week. If you work five days a week, eight hours a day, so you work 40 hours a week. You can then take 2 or 4 hours off due to the shorter working week. There are also a number of rules on minimum wages and overtime payments.

    For more details, please check the ministry of social affairs website:

    Beside paid leave, there are 2 national holidays:

    • 30th April, Queen's Day;
    • 5th May, Liberation Day;

    Additionally, the following are generally observed public holidays:

    • 1st January;
    • Easter Monday;
    • 40 days after Easter, Ascension Day;
    • Whit Monday;
    • 25th, 26th December, Christmas and Boxing Day
